Eight stranded Odia youths return from Dubai with MP Baijayant Panda's help, after being misled about jobs. Families express gratitude.
Bhubaneswar, Odisha : In a significant development, eight Odia youths who were stranded in Dubai have successfully returned to India, thanks to the intervention of MP Shri Baijayant Panda. The youths, who had faced severe hardships after being misled about their employment opportunities, were rescued and brought back to their homeland.
The ordeal began when Marut Das, Abhimanyu Behera, Narayan Samal, Mitu Patnaik, Ramesh Hati, Naresh Hati, Bichitrananda Hati, and Pitabas Pradhan, all from different parts of Odisha, traveled to Dubai on May 19th. They were recruited through an agent under the pretense of working as pipe fitters. However, upon arrival, the company placed them in different roles. When the youths protested, they were dismissed from their jobs and were forced to take refuge in a mosque under dire conditions.
Desperate and without any means to return home, their families reached out for help. It was then that Baijayant Panda stepped in. On July 4th, Panda wrote a letter to the Indian Ambassador in Dubai, urging immediate intervention. He highlighted the plight of the stranded youths and requested that steps be taken to ensure their safe return to India.
The Indian Embassy in Dubai responded promptly to Panda's appeal. The concerted efforts between the embassy officials and Panda's office resulted in the successful rescue and repatriation of the eight youths. They arrived safely in Bhubaneswar today, where they were warmly welcomed by their families and supporters.
Upon their arrival at the Bhubaneswar Airport, the families expressed immense gratitude towards Baijayant Panda for his timely and effective intervention. In a heartfelt gesture, they honored Panda, acknowledging his crucial role in bringing their loved ones back home.
This incident sheds light on the challenges faced by migrant workers and the importance of governmental and diplomatic support in such crises. It also underscores the need for stricter regulations and oversight in the recruitment processes to prevent exploitation and ensure the welfare of workers abroad.
The successful repatriation of these youths stands as a testament to the power of advocacy and the vital role of public officials in safeguarding the rights and well-being of citizens.
