Odisha allocates ₹50 crore to revamp Kakatpur Maa Mangala Temple, addressing infrastructural issues and enhancing tourism. Deputy CM Parida leads heritage walk, highlighting regional cultural promotion efforts.
The project, funded by the state's tourism department, aims to address long-standing issues faced by the temple, including water leakage in the sanctum and difficulties in performing rituals. These improvements are expected to enhance the temple's appeal and attract more tourists.
The announcement came during a 21-kilometer heritage walk from the Maa Purneshwari Temple in Nimapada to the Maa Mangala Temple in Kakatpur, led by Deputy Chief Minister Parida. The walk, organized by the tourism department, began with a puja at the Purneshwari Temple at 7 AM and saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, students, farmers, and women. Along the route, the Deputy Chief Minister was warmly greeted with flowers and traditional offerings.
"The heritage walk aims to showcase our ancient traditions, culture, historic rivers, and promote tourism," said Deputy Chief Minister Parida. She also outlined plans to connect Konark, Astarang, and Nimapada into a triangular tourism circuit, which is expected to boost rural tourism development in the area.
The development plan includes marketing local handicrafts and products from self-help groups, such as the renowned Chhenajhilli from Nimapada, on an international level. This initiative is poised to establish the Nimapada region as a prominent heritage tourism destination.
The Nimapada heritage walk is the first of its kind, with plans for similar events involving various ministers in the future. Deputy Chief Minister Parida also announced that tourism teams would visit villages to promote women's tourism entrepreneurship, further enhancing the region's economic development.
