6 Bangladeshi Suspects Arrested in Odisha Amid Heightened Coastal Vigilance

Amid violence in Bangladesh, Odisha ramps up coastal vigilance. Locals detain suspected Bangladeshi nationals; patrols intensified.

Basudebpur, Odisha : Amid escalating violence in Bangladesh, fears of unauthorized entry into India have surged, prompting heightened security measures along Odisha’s coast. Authorities are now implementing rigorous surveillance over maritime routes to counter the potential influx.

Earlier today, tensions flared in Basudebpur when local residents detained six individuals suspected of being Bangladeshi nationals. The group was intercepted in an auto-rickshaw near the high school square and questioned after they failed to provide credible identification.

This incident led to significant agitation among locals, prompting immediate notification to the Basudebpur police station. The individuals have since been taken into custody for further interrogation.

In response to the rising threat, the Police DG has called for increased vigilance regarding Bangladeshi nationals. Given the likelihood of entry via sea routes, patrolling efforts have been intensified.

The authorities have directed an increase in monitoring at 18 maritime stations, with special alerts issued for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapada. Additionally, patrols are now extended up to 5 nautical miles offshore, and maritime stations have been reinforced with additional personnel and resources.

The DIG has assured that stringent security measures are in place and emphasized that vigilance has been significantly bolstered to prevent unauthorized maritime entries.
